Class Description: This course acquaints students with basic scientific principles that apply to the earth and our natural environment. Emphasis is placed on current and historical geologic processes of North America with particular emphasis on Washington and the Cascade Mountain Range. New discoveries and environmental issues are discussed. Topics include: meteorology, earth's structure/composition, crystals, minerals, rock types, plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes, glaciers and cave formation. Possible field trips to Mt St Helens, crystal digging, and rock hounding.
