Class Description: This class will use Steve Sheinkin s captivatingly written books King George: what was his problem, Which Way to the Wild West and Two Miserable Presidents which tell the familiar story of American history peppered with fabulous bits that make history engaging and funny. Along with those books we will read Howard Zinn s A Young People s History of the United States which tells our story from the perspective of the often ignored voices: women, Native American, African American, the indentured servants, and marginalized. We will examine primary sources from the time period and do projects to help us understand why this history matters today. The class will be discussion based. The weekly homework will be 3-4 hours and will consist of readings, writing, and projects. ( I will also tie the readings from the Lit and Comp Class with the themes in this class, but each class will stand as an independent credit and can be taken separately). Tuition includes photocopies and printing supplies along with their writing notebook.
