Class Description: In this class, we will learn unusual and creative strategies for mathematical problem solving. My goal is not to cover a particular math grade level, but to help develop reasoning skills and a broader understanding of concepts already learned. I will encourage all creative strategies; we will also use mental math, estimation, algebraic reasoning, simplification and organizational tricks, deductive reasoning and anything else that works! We will also veer off the beaten path and talk about interesting mathematical patterns and challenging puzzles and games, including solving the rubik's cube. Approximately one class a month will be dedicated to mathematical games.
