 [28] Puzzles and Patterns 13  Instructor: Iman Yazdi  Grades: 6th to 9th  Room: C139  Year: 2017  Time: 11:00 AM  Class Size: 10 to 15  Prerequisites: Minimum Prerequisites: Elementary math including some PreAlgebra. Students are expected to have working knowledge and basic understanding of arithmetic concepts (including fraction, decimals, percents) and algebraic ideas at a basic level (write an expression, solve for unknown).  Tuition: $36.00 per 4Class Session  Supplies Cost: $20.00 per Year  Student Provided Materials: Basic supplies: paper, pencils, calculator, etc.  Homework: 02 hours /  In this class, we will learn unusual and creative strategies for mathematical problem solving. My goal is not to cover a particular math grade level, but to help develop reasoning skills and a broader understanding of concepts already learned. I will encourage all creative strategies; we will also use mental math, estimation, algebraic reasoning, simplification and organizational tricks, deductive reasoning and anything else that works! We will also veer off the beaten path and talk about interesting mathematical patterns and challenging puzzles and games, including solving the rubik's cube. Approximately one class a month will be dedicated to mathematical games.
