Class Size: 6 to 10Prerequisites: Learning to program takes patience and practice! Students must be able to pay close attention to detail, be able to listen without interruption, and be committed to practice and homework assignments.
Tuition: $40.00 per 4-Class SessionDuration: 1 hour
Student Provided Materials: Students are welcome to use in-class laptops or come with their own.
One Time Cost (to teacher) $10.00Cost Description: The one-time supply fee is used to bulk-purchase USB flash drives and minimal class supplies to illustrate lesson concepts.
Homework: Weekly homework assignments.
Skills: Decent spelling and an ability to pay close attention to detail.
Class Description: Python is a powerful programming language that s easy to learn and fun to use! We will work through the basics of Python programming using Python for Kids, by Jason A. Biggs, as we experiment with unique (and often hilarious) example programs that feature ravenous monsters, secret agents, thieving ravens, and more. By the end of class students will have programmed several complete games of progressing difficulty. In this class, students will learn how to use fundamental data structures such as lists, tuples and maps; how to organize and reuse code with functions and modules; how to control structures such as loops and conditional statements; how to draw shapes and patterns with Python s turtle module; and create games and animations.
