Class Description: Lewis and Clark's journey to map the American West is one of the most important expeditions in our nation's history and reads more like a sweeping adventure story than a scientific mission. We'll spend an entire year, integrating history, science, geography, art and literature on our virtual trip from colonial Virginia to the Pacific Ocean with these adventurers and their expedition party.Through hands-on activities, we'll learn as much as we can about the origins, preparations and events that occurred on this historic journey up the Missouri River. Who were Meriwether Lewis and William Clark? Who sent them on this dangerous voyage, and why? What political events were happening in the world at the time that made their trip so important? How did they prepare for the journey? Whom did they meet? What did they eat, and what did they learn along the way? A journal will keep our facts together as we engage with and learn to appreciate the national, cultural and scientific importance of this extraordinary voyage of discovery.
