Kodaly Musicianship Classes (Ages 5-7 approx.) This is the perfect musical introductory class for younger children as it uses a combination of folk songs, games, and pedagogical manipulatives (Montessori-type props, puppets, etc.) in order to introduce the basic concepts of music theory. The curriculum is based on principles and tools compiled in Hungary in the early-mid 1900's by renown composer and pedagogue Zoltan Kodaly. His goal was to bring unity through the music to the people of Hungary by teaching every person how to sing. His approach was so successful that it created a music education revolution and has been used all over the world ever since. In this class, the students will begin to learn how to: * Sing with Proper technique * Sight Sing using Solfege & Curwen Hand Signs * Sightread using the Musical Alphabet * Understand & Write Rhythms * Understand Basic Musical Terminology (e.g. tempi (speeds) and dynamics (loud & soft)) * Perform in a Supportive Environment All of the concepts presented and practiced in these classes are applicable in any musical context ranging from singing or playing an instrument for fun or performing professionally.
