Students will run, jump, vault, climb, stabilize, balance, leap, roll, tumble, and move in every quadrupedal and bipedal manner imaginable to problem-solve while in motion. Classes will include obstacle courses, folk and creative dances, cardio and strength-building exercises, and a variety of individual and group games and explorations to expand self-knowledge and understanding of human anatomy. Obstacles and parkour will be the core of the curriculum and require repetition of natural human movement vocabularies. Parkour and dance reinforce developmental movement patterns, which improve integration of primitive reflexes (reflexes common to all primates). Reflex integration promotes self-awareness, spatial awareness, confidence, posture, coordination, agility, and correlates with improved executive function and expanded attention/focus. Classes will promote social-emotional development, requiring sharing, taking turns, communication, and self-expression. Students will learn that motion can change emotion; that tenacity yields growth; and that self-awareness enables self-confidence.
