Students will run, jump, vault, climb, balance, leap, roll, tumble, and move in every quadrupedal and bipedal manner imaginable to problem-solve while in motion. Classes will include obstacle courses, folk and creative dances, body exercises, and a variety of games. Obstacles and parkour will introduce and repeat natural human movement vocabularies. Parkour and dance reinforce developmental movement patterns, which improve integration of primitive reflexes (reflexes common to all primates). Reflex integration promotes self-awareness, spatial awareness, confidence, posture, coordination, agility, and correlates with improved executive function and expanded attention/focus. Class will promote social-emotional development, requiring sharing, taking turns, communication, and self-expression.
