Class Description: Music Theory & Musicianship Music theory and it's often ignored sibling, musicianship form the basic building blocks of music which allow us to understand and experience the inner workings of music. This class will explore how and why particular types of music sound the way they do in a fun hands-on setting by studying works ranging from Early Classical and folk music to present-day Pop. The students will learn how to: * Sight Sing using Movable Do Solfege * Perform and Identify Different Scales * Understand the Circle of Fifth's * Create Basic Compositions * Understand Basic Chordal Structures & Functions * Accurately Hear and Notate Melodies * Improvise Melodies The final project will culminate with each student harmonizing a short song of their choice. This class is a perfect introduction to music theory for students who think they might want to major or minor in music in college in addition to those just simply interested in the topic.
