Drawing was once taught along with the 3R's. It isn't so much an ability as learning to 'see.' Keeping an illustrated journal in this class is the key to developing both skill and satisfaction. We share our books, play drawing games to train the eye'and others that are just fun (no worries about drawing right'), get journal-keeping tips, discus famous artists' work paired with the lesson, and draw the day's project. General topics include: experimenting, contour, 'mistakes,' positive/negative space, lettering, design, maps, color and perspective. Each week I email a class recap and 'challenge.' I'm a graphic designer who draws daily'for more than 'practice' (see lifeinaday.posthaven.com)), learning repeatedly: what I haven't drawn, I've never really seen.
